Those of you who know me personally will know that of the many shops I love in Winchester, redress is my all time favourite! The owner, Lindsay Leman is just lovely, especially as I get a cup of tea when I visit her (because I’m a special customer!)
I first met Lindsay a few years ago when I worked around the corner from her shop, and used to pop in occassionally in my lunch break. re:dress is a contemporary clothing agency for women; a place where you will find great used and sometimes even new clothing from jeans to cocktail dresses, not a dowdy suit or poofy bridesmaid dress in sight! She also stocks shoes, bags, belts, hats and jewellery.
redress always has a wide range of labels, such as Noa Noa, Marilyn Moore, Avoca Anthology, Karen Millen, Paul & Joe, Moschino, LK Bennett, Jigsaw, Armani, Prada, Jaeger, Paul Smith and many more. A lot of her clients bring in goods to be sold that has been bought from the popular Moda Rosa, Hetre & Meka in Alresford and The Hambledon in The Square. She also stocks brands such as White Stuff, Joules, Crew Clothing, Monsoon and Boden.
There is always a huge selection of jeans and everything is incredibly well organised by item, colour and size. She caters for all shapes and sizes; clothing ranging from size 6 – 18, and shoes from 3 – 8. Never overcrowded, light spacious fitting rooms with Lindsay nearby to fuss over you if you are needy (I am), and most importantly affordable! There is even a comfy couch with the latest copy of Hello and Top Gear for the impatient husband or friend, and a basket of toys for the patient child.
As of yesterday I am the proud new owner of the most gorgeous Miu Miu sandals and a pair of Lulu Guinness sunglasses, purple I might add! I have been known to pick up many a bargain at redress, including an exquisite Jenny Packham silk beaded dress with petal shrug for just £200!
If you have items you want re:dress to sell for you, goods are sold on a commission basis 60% to the shop and 40% to the client. Goods are kept in the shop for 6 weeks, after 6 weeks you either collect your items, or they are donated to a local charity shop. Lindsay has a great system where she rotates the charity shops in Winchester so they all get supported. It’s always best to give her a ring first, but Lindsay usually accepts stock Wednesday to Friday before 2pm.
So if you have not yet been into redress, it is worth the walk away from the High Street. Walk up passed the Man on the Horse and the Hampshire Hog, cross over the road as if you were going to the pub on the corner, walk a short way up Romsey Road and you will find re:dress on the right, with the blue door.
