Whilst walking to the River Park Leisure Centre, I saw the inviting pink door of The Colour Factory and finally had some time to go in. I have so often been by but ever had the time to pop in. So glad I did – what a great find for gifts, greeting cards, prints and jewellery. Unlike a lot of arty studios, the items were all really affordable prices too!
Various artists feature their works of art at The Colour Factory, including Linda Miller textiles, Jenny Muncaster paintings, Jill Maguire glass & ceramics, Rachel Alexander paintings and Emma Davies mixed media.
They also run what they call Craft Creative Birthday Parties – for both children and adults. For adults they can provide wine, along with nibbles and come up with a crafty 2 1/2 hours for you and your friends for just £30 per head (min 6). Crafts include decorative painting, paint effects and decoupage, chandelier making, felt and bead jewellery, mosaics, machine embroidery, fabric appliqué, creative knitting, contemporary floral design. Children’s parties are suitable for kids 8 years up and are just £15 per head (min 6).
The Colour Factory Lightbox was designed by Dan Brill Architects in collaboration with The Colour Factory and opened in 2008. Workshops for all age groups are held in the Lightbox and it can be hired as a corporate or private events venue.
Not sure if anyone else has wondered who is responsible for the funky bollards around the shops in the Square? From browsing their website I discovered that in 2005 & 2006 they were painted by the artist at The Colour Factory, ad it is known as the Bollard Project. I adore them and think it is such a great idea to brighten up Winchester. If you would like to leave your mark on our beautiful city, email them about sponsoring a bollard!
Do visit their website to find out more about what they have to offer, and do take the time to pop in just for a browse, or when you are next looking for a unique gift or greeting card.
